Samsung Details How It Made Its Latest Foldable Phone Thinner and Lighter in a New Official Statement

Samsung Reveals Technical Details Behind the Slimmer, Stronger Galaxy Z Fold 7

Samsung has shared new insights into the design of its upcoming foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 a device that, despite being thinner than its predecessor, features improved durability and structural integrity.

According to the official statement, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is 48% thinner than the previous generation. Meanwhile, the external display is now protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, which is 30% stronger, and the newly introduced Advanced Armor Aluminum frame is 10% more durable than the previous alloy.

The most significant upgrade comes in the form of the new hinge design, called Armor FlexHinge, which is 27% thinner and 43% lighter than the hinge used in the Galaxy Z Fold 6. To achieve this, Samsung employed slimmer rotating and supporting components, crafted from next-generation alloys.

The redesigned hinge separates the load-bearing and rotating functions, enhancing overall stability. A wing-shaped support plate has also been introduced to help evenly distribute pressure and reduce visible crease marks along the fold.

The display itself has seen meaningful improvements. The Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) layer is now 50% thicker, providing better durability. However, thanks to a revamped layering system and new materials, the entire screen assembly remains thinner than before.

On the back of the display, Samsung has replaced the traditional carbon fiber layer with a titanium-based structure, offering even greater reinforcement to the panel.

Some features, such as S Pen support and the under-display camera, have been removed in this generation. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 still stands out as one of Samsung’s most technically advanced and structurally refined foldables to date.

Real-world performance remains to be seen, but based on Samsung’s promises, expectations are high for what this device can deliver.
