Mijia Rotary Tool Kit with precision bits on a warm peach and teal workbench

What Can the Mijia Rotary Tool Kit Actually Do?

A rotary tool can engrave, sand, polish and drill—but the size of the job matters. The Mijia Rotary Tool Kit is a slim, rechargeable precision tool designed for small, controlled tasks. It is not a substitute for a full-size drill, angle grinder or heavy-duty rotary tool.

Quick answer

Choose it for model making, craft projects, small repairs, light engraving, edge cleanup, surface polishing and tiny holes in soft materials. Its 2cm pen-style body is easier to guide than a bulky power tool, and the included case keeps 16 accessories organised.

Skip it for drilling walls, cutting thick metal, removing large amounts of material or any task that needs high torque. Xiaomi’s own FAQ describes it as a low-power portable rotary tool with less power than medium or large handheld models.

At the time of writing, DG Gadget lists the Global gray kit at AED 137 with stock available. Price and availability can change.

What the kit includes

The tool runs from 15,000 to 22,000rpm with stepless adjustment from the rear knob. It has an 800mAh battery, charges over USB-C in about 90 minutes and can also operate from a suitable 5V/3A power supply. The complete case weighs approximately 310g.

Accessory type Best suited to
Twist drill bit Small holes in softer materials such as wood and plastic
Diamond grinding bits Detailed carving and grinding on harder materials
Abrasive grinding bits Rough or intermediate grinding on metal and non-metal surfaces
Rubber grinding heads Fine polishing, light rust removal and surface finishing
Wool polishing wheel and heads Cleaning and polishing metal, glass, wood or decorative pieces

Five jobs it handles well

1. Model making and craft cleanup

The narrow grip helps when smoothing small wooden parts, removing a moulding mark from plastic or shaping a model component. Begin at the lowest speed and use light pressure. Let the accessory do the work; pushing hard can stall the tool and damage the piece.

2. Light engraving

A diamond bit can add a small mark or simple pattern to a suitable surface. Practise on scrap material first, because an engraving mistake is usually permanent. Xiaomi specifically advises professional guidance when working on valuable items.

3. Fine sanding and deburring

The abrasive accessories suit small edges, burrs and tight corners where hand sanding is awkward. This is detail work—not rapid stock removal. For a large surface or a deep metal burr, use a more powerful tool designed for the material.

4. Polishing small objects

Wool and rubber accessories can improve the finish of small metal, glass, wood or decorative pieces. Use the correct compound for the material when required, work gradually and stop frequently to check heat. The kit does not guarantee restoration of scratches, coatings or plated finishes.

5. Tiny holes in soft material

Xiaomi states that the tool can make holes around 1.3–1.4mm in diameter. Treat that as precision drilling for wood, plastic or craft work—not general drilling. Secure the piece before starting and never hold a small workpiece close to the rotating bit with your fingers.

What it should not replace

  • A cordless drill: it is not intended for wall plugs, large screws or construction drilling.
  • An angle grinder: it should not cut structural metal, tile or masonry.
  • A heavy rotary tool: prolonged high-load grinding can trigger heat or stall protection.
  • A precision screwdriver: its rotating accessories remove or finish material; they are not screwdriver bits for assembling electronics.

The tool automatically stops after 10 minutes of continuous operation as a protective measure. If it stops sooner, Xiaomi says a depleted battery, excessive load, overheating or stall protection may be responsible.

Battery mode or plugged-in mode?

Battery mode is the convenient choice for quick jobs and better cable-free control. Xiaomi rates normal runtime at around 60 minutes under its test conditions, but real runtime varies with speed, pressure, accessory and material.

For longer sessions, use the included cable with a 5V/3A power source. Plugged-in operation does not charge the battery while the motor is running; charging resumes after the tool stops. A lower-power adapter can reduce performance or cause the tool to stop. For normal charging, the listed input is 5V/1A.

Xiaomi’s official specifications list a 0°C to 40°C operating range. In the UAE, avoid using or charging the tool in direct summer sun or inside a hot parked vehicle.

Safe first-use checklist

  1. Choose the accessory for the exact material and task.
  2. Push its 2.35mm shank fully into the chuck.
  3. Tighten the chuck nut before switching on; never start with a loose bit.
  4. Wear suitable eye protection. Add a dust mask, hearing protection, gloves or apron when the material and task require them.
  5. Clamp or otherwise secure the workpiece.
  6. Start at low speed and test on scrap material.
  7. Use gentle pressure and check frequently for heat, wobble or surface damage.
  8. Remove the accessory and clean dust from the tool and charging port before storage.

Can you use replacement accessories?

Yes, but diameter matters. Xiaomi says compatible third-party accessories need a 2.35mm shank. Shape alone is not enough: the accessory must also be rated for the selected rotational speed and suitable for the material. Replace worn bits rather than forcing them to continue.

If an accessory wobbles, stop immediately. Remove it, inspect the shank and reinstall it fully and straight. Continuing with an off-centre bit reduces control and can damage both the workpiece and tool.

Verdict

The Mijia Rotary Tool Kit makes sense for UAE shoppers who want a compact, tidy tool for detailed hobby and household work. Its comfortable pen format, adjustable speed, dual power modes and organised accessory case are the main advantages. Its honest limitation is power: it excels at precision, not heavy material removal.
