One UI 8.5 Update Brings a Useful New Feature to the Galaxy Z Flip 7

The One UI 8.5 update introduces a useful and practical feature for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, enhancing the overall experience of using the phone’s cover display.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is one of Samsung’s flagship devices, featuring a large and capable cover display that enables a wide range of functions while the phone is closed. Users can access widgets, run apps, take high-quality selfies, and even manage calls without unfolding the device. However, one major limitation has affected call handling on the outer screen: the lack of a dedicated call speaker, which causes incoming calls to play through the main loudspeaker.

This issue can be inconvenient in public spaces or situations where privacy matters. Unfolding the Galaxy Z Flip 7 to answer a call—or rejecting the call altogether—undermines the purpose of having a functional outer display. Samsung has addressed this concern with the One UI 8.5 update, which introduces a solution to improve call usability on the cover screen.

In One UI 8.5, Samsung has added a “Low Volume” button to the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s call interface on the cover display. Tapping this button instantly reduces the call volume to the lowest possible level. This feature allows users to manage call audio discreetly in quiet or crowded environments, without needing to reach for the physical volume buttons or open the phone.

According to Sam Mobile, the new One UI 8.5 feature doesn’t require any complex changes to sound settings and simply works as a convenient shortcut. The phone remembers this preference, meaning users don’t need to press the button again for every incoming call.

The One UI 8.5 update has not yet been officially released for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, but a beta version is expected in the coming weeks. For now, Samsung has not confirmed whether this feature will be available on older Galaxy Z Flip models, although there appears to be no technical limitation preventing its rollout to previous generations.
