Elon Musk Regains His Spot as the World’s Richest Person, Recovering Nearly All His Lost Wealth

Elon Musk has once again been recognized as the world’s richest individual, nearly restoring the fortune he lost earlier this year.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, by the close of trading on Monday, Musk’s net worth had reached $429 billion — almost matching the $432 billion he held at the start of the year.

Musk’s wealth took a sharp hit this year as he served as a “special government employee” in the White House’s DOGE office, working on efficiency projects under Donald Trump. Much of the decline was tied to the plunge in Tesla’s stock.

Investors feared that Tesla’s CEO was becoming too entangled in politics to properly address the company’s core challenges, including growing competition and slowing sales.

In April, Tesla’s shares — and Musk’s fortune — hit their lowest point of the year. His net worth fell to $290 billion, while Tesla’s stock dropped 45% compared to the beginning of the year.

That same month, Musk announced he would step down from his role with the DOGE office in May. The news was welcomed by investors, and both Tesla’s shares and his fortune began to rebound.

Later in the summer, Musk’s public feud with Trump escalated, with both exchanging accusations and insults across social media — a development that caused another dip in Tesla’s stock price.

Yet Musk’s wealth surged again following the announcement of a $1 trillion compensation package for him and the news that he personally bought $1 billion worth of Tesla shares.

Tesla’s Surge Pushes Elon Musk Back to the Top

Tesla’s stock climbed nearly 18% over the past five trading days, closing Monday at its highest level this year. It marks the first time in 2025 that the company’s shares have entered positive territory.

Last week, Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle, briefly overtook Musk as the world’s richest person thanks to Oracle’s stock rally. But with Tesla’s sharp rebound, Elon Musk has once again reclaimed the top spot.
