Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Main Brushes: Standard or Hair-Cutting?
Share
Two orange-and-black Xiaomi rollers can look similar in a product photo, but they are not interchangeable across every robot vacuum. The safest way to choose is to start with the complete model name on the robot's label, then decide between a conventional roller and a hair-cutting design only if both are confirmed for that model.
The short answer
- Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X20 Max: both the standard BHR6557GL main brush and BHR9689GL anti-tangle hair-cutting brush are listed as compatible, so you can choose based on your maintenance preference.
- Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 or 5 Pro: among the two rollers in this guide, choose the BHR9689GL hair-cutting brush.
- X20+, X20 Pro, S20+, X10+ or S10+: among these two options, choose the BHR6557GL standard main brush.
- Any other Xiaomi model: do not assume it fits. Check the exact model and accessory code before ordering.
Compatibility at a glance
| Robot model | BHR6557GL standard brush | BHR9689GL hair-cutting brush |
|---|---|---|
| X20 Max | Confirmed | Confirmed |
| Robot Vacuum 5 / 5 Pro | Not listed for this brush | Confirmed |
| X20+ / X20 Pro | Confirmed | Not listed for this brush |
| X10+ / S10+ / S20+ | Confirmed | Not listed for this brush |
“Not listed” means the compatibility information checked for that accessory does not name the model. It should not be treated as proof that an unlisted combination will fit.
What the standard main brush does
The Xiaomi BHR6557GL standard main brush combines black bristles with orange rubber fins. It is a conventional full-width floor roller for the listed X10+, S10+, X20+, S20+, X20 Pro and X20 Max models. The DG Gadget pack also includes a small cleaning tool.
This is the straightforward choice when your existing roller has worn bristles, damaged fins or an incorrect shape after prolonged use. Hair can still wind around a conventional roller, so expect to lift it out and clean it manually. For homes without much long hair or pet hair, that maintenance may be perfectly manageable.
What changes with the hair-cutting brush
The Xiaomi BHR9689GL anti-tangle hair-cutting brush is listed for X20 Max, Robot Vacuum 5 and Robot Vacuum 5 Pro. Its internal cutting structure helps reduce hair wrapping as the roller collects debris.
“Anti-tangle” does not mean maintenance-free. Hair type, length, floor conditions and cleaning frequency still affect the result. The roller should be inspected regularly, and accumulated debris should be removed carefully without touching the cutting parts. The brush cover is also a separate component and is not included with this roller.
Which should an X20 Max owner choose?
X20 Max is the useful exception because it appears on both compatibility lists.
- Choose the standard brush if you want the familiar bristle-and-fin roller and are comfortable removing wrapped hair by hand during routine maintenance.
- Choose the hair-cutting brush if long hair or pet hair regularly winds around your roller and reducing that buildup matters more to you.
Neither option eliminates the need to check the underside of the robot. A clogged brush compartment, damaged end bearing or loose cover can still affect normal operation.
Three checks before ordering
- Read the full model name. X20, X20+, X20 Pro and X20 Max are different names. A plus sign or suffix can change the correct accessory.
- Match the part code. BHR6557GL is the standard brush in this guide; BHR9689GL is the hair-cutting brush. A similar-looking roller is not enough.
- Identify the failed part. The roller, brush cover and brush motor are separate. A new roller will not repair broken cover clips or a motor fault.
How often should you clean or replace the brush?
Xiaomi's official guidance for the X20+ says to clean the main brush every two weeks and replace it every 6–12 months. The company gives the same cleaning and replacement interval for the X20 Max, while noting that real maintenance needs depend on use. See Xiaomi's X20+ brush-care instructions and X20 Max maintenance guidance.
Treat those intervals as a maintenance framework rather than a guarantee. Homes with pets, long hair, thick rugs or frequent cleaning may need inspection sooner. Switch off the robot before working underneath it, remove tangled material carefully, seat the roller ends correctly and make sure the cover locks back into place before use.
Bottom line
Start with compatibility, then choose the maintenance style. X20 Max owners can select either verified roller in this guide; Robot Vacuum 5 and 5 Pro owners should use the verified hair-cutting option; X20+, X20 Pro, S20+, X10+ and S10+ owners should use the verified standard option. If the exact model name is absent, pause and confirm before buying.
